What Makes A Good Purifier?
What makes a good air purifier?
To ensure an effective improvement of indoor air quality, it is important to choose your air purifier carefully.
Several factors must be taken into account.
  • Technology
There are numerous purification technologies: photocatalytic, plasma, ionization, filtration, water purification, etc. Some technologies, while effective, may emit harmful residues during the pollutant decomposition process. Others have limited effectiveness in terms of the pollutants or surface areas treated. Air purifiers that are equipped with filters are recognized for combining optimum effectiveness and safety.
  • The filters
A good purifier generally has several filters suitable for different pollutants:
    - a pre-filter to stop large particles and avoid the other filters becoming blocked,
    - a HEPA filter to stop the finer particles,
    - an active carbon filter to neutralise gases and odors,
    - dedicated filters for certain very dangerous pollutants such as formaldehyde.
Aside from the number of filters, the quality, thickness and size as well as the hermetic seal on the filters are essential for an air purifier to be effective.
  • Automatic detection of pollution
Devices equipped with an automatic function enabling air purification at your convenience. These devices generally feature one or more sensors (for particles, gas) that detect the level of pollution in the home. According to the concentration measured, the air quality indicator changes color and the filtration speed is automatically adjusted.
  • Air flow and Clean air delivery Rate (CADR)
The air flow must be as high as possible to guarantee the optimum circulation and purification of the air. CADR is a measurement that allows us to quantify how fast a purifier is able to remove the particles present in the room. Equal to the flow, the higher the CADR, the higher the performance of the purifier. However, you must be aware that the higher the air flow and the CADR, the higher the risk of the sound level increasing with it.
  • Sound level
Since the air purifier will feature in your living rooms, both its design and size must be taken into consideration, to allow it to harmoniously integrate with the decor in your home.
  • Design
